Chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of the essential oil from \(\textit{Magnolia balansae}\) A. DC. growing in Vietnam

Essential oils of Magnolia balansae A. DC. growing wild in Son La (leaf, twig and fruit) Phu Tho (fruit) provinces Vietnam were obtained by hydrodistillation analyzed using GC/MS-FID. From 30 to 49 compounds identified accounting for 66.1–80.0% the oils. Spathulenol (33.9%, 20.7%, 11.2%), caryophyllene oxide (10.0%, 10.1%, 9.3%) main components leaf, fruit M. balansae, respectively, from province. Linalool (13.8%) was also component oil. While, oil province, cis-β-elemene (10.4%) sole component. The antimicrobial activity tested against 3 microorganism strains an agar disk diffusion method with inhibitory zone diameters ranging 13.5 40 mm. IC50 MIC determined a microdilution broth susceptibility assay 7 strains. Among them, Bacillus subtilis had highest sensitivity values (ranging 57.0 82.0 µg/mL) value (512 µg/mL). This is first study on chemical composition essential their activity.
